One of the biggest challenges facing new A-level Maths students isn’t simply that the maths becomes harder. It’s that A-level Maths assumes students can already use the more demanding GCSE techniques fluently and confidently.
Come September, there simply isn’t time to stop and revisit GCSE concepts and methods. Instead, fluency is assumed from the very start.
This can be a challenge – the more demanding GCSE topics aren’t easy, and many students will not have given them a second thought since June!
Starting A-Level Maths unprepared in September would be like driving on a motorway before you’re completely confident with the car’s basic controls.
Students who make the strongest start to Year 12 are not necessarily those who achieved the highest GCSE grades. They are the students who begin Year 12 able to use these GCSE methods instinctively. This fluency allows them to concentrate fully on the new mathematics they encounter in Year 12.
And this is exactly what this course is designed to achieve.
Get Ready for A-Level Maths
The course starts on Friday 21st August (the day after GCSE results day), and runs until Monday 31st August.
It includes:
• Four live taught sessions (60 minutes each)
• Two live drop-in Q&A sessions
• A comprehensive 150-page Course Manual
• A separate Solutions Booklet
• WhatsApp support throughout the course
• Recordings of every live session
The 110-page Course Manual covers the 23 key topics that underpin success at A-level. Each topic includes Key Points, Worked Examples, Practice Questions and Extension Questions. There is a separate solutions booklet.
The Course Manual is included as a digital download.
As soon as a place has been confirmed, students will receive immediate access to the digital Course Manual, so they can begin preparing for A-level Maths straight away.
However, there is no expectation that students spend hours each day working through the Course Manual. Instead, I recommend completing a small amount regularly throughout the summer holidays, gradually building the fluency that will make such a difference when A-level Maths begins.
The live taught sessions
The four taught sessions focus on the more demanding GCSE topics that students most need to master before beginning A-level Maths.
Session 1 – Friday 21st August, 11am.
Circle Theorems & Coordinate Geometry
Session 2 – Saturday 22nd August, 11am.
Graphs (including transformations, cubics, reciprocals & trigonometric graphs)
Session 3 – Monday 24th August, 11am
Complex Algebra
Session 4 – Tuesday 25th August, 11am
Complex Trigonometry
Each live session is supported by the corresponding section of the Course Manual, allowing students to consolidate what they’ve learned through worked examples, practice questions and extension work.
The aim is not simply to revise these topics, but to ensure that students are genuinely fluent in them before their very first A-level lesson.
The live drop-in sessions
Students are welcome to come to these live drop-in sessions to ask questions about the content of the programme, or about any other maths they are working on. They can come armed with questions, or simply come and take part in tackling the questions which others bring.

Monday 31st August, 11am
In addition to these drop-in sessions, students can ask for help anytime via WhatsApp. Generally, issues can be resolved easily over WhatsApp or with a quick Zoom call at a mutually convenient time.

My child already understands all of these GCSE topics. Is this course still worthwhile?
Absolutely.
The purpose of the course is not simply to revise GCSE Maths.
The purpose is to develop the fluency needed for A-level Maths.
Students need to be able to use these techniques quickly, confidently and accurately, without having to stop and think about the underlying GCSE methods. That fluency allows them to concentrate fully on the new mathematics they encounter in Year 12.
Does it matter which GCSE or IGCSE exam board my child studied?
No.
The course is suitable for students from all GCSE and IGCSE examination boards.
Does it matter which A-level examination board my child will study?
No.
The early content of all the major UK A-level specifications, International A-levels and the IB is very similar, and the GCSE skills covered in this course are essential regardless of examination board.
What happens if my child cannot attend one of the live sessions?
No problem.
Every taught session will be recorded, so students can watch the recording at a convenient time.
Will students be able to ask questions?
Yes – of course! The sessions are as interactive as ever.
Students can ask questions during the live sessions, attend the drop-in Q&A sessions, and contact me throughout the course via WhatsApp if they need help with the Course Manual or any independent work they are doing.
