Supporting Success in Year 12

Structure, focus, and expert help — every single week

Support for Your Child in Year 12 Maths

Moving from GCSE to A-level Maths is a big leap — in content, pace, and expectations. Many students find that what worked for them in Year 11 no longer feels enough, and that the speed of lessons in school leaves little time to revisit topics or ask follow-up questions.

The Year 12 Study Group is here to help. It’s a weekly session designed to support your child as they settle into A-level Maths — and to give them the tools, structure, and confidence they need to succeed.

What Is the Year 12 Study Group?

It’s a 90-minute, small-group session that runs once a week, with WhatsApp support available between sessions. Each session includes:

  • A focus topic, with step-by-step walkthroughs of real AS and A-level exam questions from topics students have already studied in school
  • A skills sprint, using short, sharp weekly quizzes to build fluency and confidence in core skills
  • A chance to get help with specific questions from school, submitted in advance or brought to the session
  • Time for quiet independent study, with live support available so students can ask questions as they work

It’s designed to be flexible, responsive, and calm — not another class, but a study space with expert support built in.

Why It’s So Effective

✅ Bridges the gap between GCSE and A-level — both in content and in mindset
✅ Builds confidence with A-level exam questions, from the very start
✅ Reinforces learning that often can’t be revisited in lessons
✅ Provides real-time feedback and clarification — no question goes unanswered
✅ Encourages consistent, high-quality independent study
✅ Builds fluency in core skills through fast, focused weekly quizzes
✅ Offers my personalised support and commitment to each student

Each session guarantees 90 minutes of structured, focused maths — something many students struggle to build into their week on their own. That structure alone can make a huge difference over time.

This group helps students feel supported, stay accountable, and make steady weekly progress — all in one calm, purposeful space.

FAQs

When are the sessions?

The Christmas Term’s sessions will take place from 1930-2100 every Monday, from Monday 14 September to Monday 7 December inclusive (except for two weeks for half-term).

How much are the sessions?

The charge for membership of the group for the Christmas term is £363 – £33 per week). This covers all resources, the 11 90-minute sessions and support between sessions.
Payments can be made termly, half-termly or monthly, as you like.

Why do I have to commit to all the sessions?

Several reasons for this. There is no doubt that regular and sustained study is most impactful, and this study group is aimed at those who want to commit to get their top grade. What’s more, in the past, parents have said to me that they appreciate having to commit at the start, and explaining this to their son / daughter, rather than having to have a weekly discussion about whether or not they will attend each week.

What if I can’t make a session?

No problem – all the sessions are recorded, and the recordings are made available to the students. What’s more, I am available between sessions to sort any mis-comprehensions.

But what if the sessions simply are not working for my son or daughter?

Firstly, I think this would be very unlikely – but please do raise any issues with me immediately, and I will do all I can to ensure that the sesisons are working well for your son or daughter.
But, just in case, I do offer a love-it-or-leave-it guarentee – if you would like to withdraw your son or daughter from the sessions after the second week, you may do so, and I will refund for the remaining sessions.

How does the WhatsApp support work?

Your son or daughter will be able to contact me individually between sessions via WhatsApp if they need help or get stuck. I’ll create a separate WhatsApp group for each student, which includes both the student and their parents — so you’re always in the loop.

How many students will there be in the group?

To ensure that I can do an excellent job by each of the students, the group will be limited to only 10 students.

How do I join a session?

When you book your place, you will receive an email with the meeting link. You will be able to join the meeting by clicking the link. (You do not need to have a Zoom account, or to have downloaded Zoom – you just have to click on the link).

I have another question

No problem! Send me a WhatsApp message using the link below.

A Year 12 Student’s Experience

“Maths with Chris in Year 12 has been really helpful for my learning and to support me in improving in maths. I like having the group lessons. It’s good to see what other people ask and how they work through problems. I find that some maths things are easier, some are harder. In a group setting, you can all explore different ways of working, and I found it really helpful. Chris’s explanations and his resources are great. I can go over them afterwards, and it helps me understand the topics.

Chris has a different approach that we don’t get in class, and it’s so helpful. He goes through harder exam questions and works through how to approach them. I found this really helpful when I’m doing independent learning and back in class.

Having the lessons with Chris has given me a positive mindset and helped me feel that I’m much more able to achieve the best I can in my A-level maths.”

We home educate and greatly valued using Mr Wright's resources and being a member of Past Paper Club. We just wanted to say a massive thank you to Mr Wright for the Grade 7 iGCSE Maths result today!! We are immensely happy because our young person truly didn't take to any of the other maths programs or teachers we tried before finding Mr Wright. They really clicked with and appreciated Mr Wright's approach, and happily turned up every day putting the work in with the materials. Thank you so much Mr Wright!

We cannot recommend Mr Wright highly enough. He supported our son, Tom with his Maths IGCSE for a few months leading up to his exams, and the difference he made in such a short space of time was remarkable. Mr Wright quickly identified the areas where Tom needed the most support and explained things in a clear, patient and encouraging way that really helped to build both his understanding and his confidence. His knowledge of the exam and the way he focused Tom’s preparation meant that every session felt purposeful and incredibly valuable. Most importantly, Tom genuinely benefited from working with him and went into his exams feeling far more confident and prepared than he had beforehand. Mr Wright was supportive, knowledgeable, approachable and clearly cares about helping his pupils achieve their best. Our only regret is that we didn’t find him sooner. We are extremely grateful for everything he did for Tom and would wholeheartedly recommend Mr Wright to any parent looking for an excellent Maths tutor.

Mr Wright’s Past Paper Club has been such a reassuring and valuable part of my son’s revision. Whatever the result may be, he went into his exams calmly and confidently, with the knowledge that he understands maths and is capable of doing it. Thank you, Mr Wright, for providing that support and for helping him believe in his own abilities.

Mr Wright really is a great teacher. My Son was scared to death of maths and after seven months with Chris he has come on leaps and bounds. He is always available to help with any difficulties and a thoroughly organised tutor. I would highly recommend him as a maths tutor.

I would honestly recommend Mr Wright’s sessions to anyone needing extra support or confidence in Maths. I struggled to find the right support for Maths for ages, and thankfully I came across his PPC and resources in April, only a few months before my Summer 2026 exams. The PPC sessions, revision classes, YouTube videos, lesson recordings, predicted papers, and endless resources made such a huge difference to me. Before joining, I often panicked and had very little confidence in maths, but his step-by-step explanations and the supportive environment really helped build my confidence and made topics much easier to understand. I’ve just sat my Summer 2026 exams, and his sessions genuinely made me feel far more prepared and capable going into them. It’s clear how much time, effort, and dedication he puts into helping Year 11 students succeed, and I really appreciate all his support.

Thank you so much for the incredible support that you have Chloe in your past paper club. Since joining your weekly sessions, her confidence in tackling more challenging mathematical problems has grown exponentially. She has also made great use of your video tutorials and workbooks that have been an excellent resource. Doing the predicted paper 2 sessions also supported her with those more challenging question types that she was not as confident with before. She came out of both of her exams feeling confident that she had given it her best shot, which is all we can ask for. She is planning to take Core Maths as an AS level next year alongside her A level choices and I am sure that your sessions have set her up well to cope with the demand of the next level of maths. Thank you once again Tracy and Chloe

I’m writing to give feedback on your courses for this year’s maths GCSE . My daughter has absolutely developed hugely in confidence having undertaken all the courses you offered for the maths GCSE . She feels far better equipped to deal with both examinations. My husband and I could not be more grateful . She found the live lessons the most useful as she felt very comfortable to ask you questions and go over anything she felt uncertain about or that needed reinforcing. The extra materials and back up were just brilliant too . You have gone above and beyond in the service you have provided : staying online way beyond the allotted time and encouraging your students to reach out to you in between sessions via WhatsApp or email . Darcey always stayed on line to the very end and we actually witnessed her beginning to enjoy the subject ! If only she’d had a teacher like you all along , maths would never have been a chore or perceived as a ‘weaker’ subject for her . As a retired Head teacher I have enjoyed overhearing your lessons and the incredible skills you have as a teacher delivering your subject . Your calm , consistent approach that engaged the students with humour and genuine enthusiasm went a long way . Darcey could not speak more highly of you and I listened to her and two of her classmates , (who also engaged your services) , extolling your virtues amongst themselves - you were held in very high regard ! We really cannot thank you enough for your tutelage . Your courses proved to be excellent value for money and we would not fail to recommend you highly . Onwards to paper 2 ! We are indebted Sarah & Cat ( Darcey’s parents )
