Structure, focus, and expert help — every single week
Support for Your Child in Year 12 Maths
Moving from GCSE to A-level Maths is a big leap — in content, pace, and expectations. Many students find that what worked for them in Year 11 no longer feels enough, and that the speed of lessons in school leaves little time to revisit topics or ask follow-up questions.
The Year 12 Study Group is here to help. It’s a weekly session designed to support your child as they settle into A-level Maths — and to give them the tools, structure, and confidence they need to succeed.
What Is the Year 12 Study Group?
It’s a 90-minute, small-group session that runs once a week, with WhatsApp support available between sessions. Each session includes:
- A focus topic, with step-by-step walkthroughs of real AS and A-level exam questions from topics students have already studied in school
- A skills sprint, using short, sharp weekly quizzes to build fluency and confidence in core skills
- A chance to get help with specific questions from school, submitted in advance or brought to the session
- Time for quiet independent study, with live support available so students can ask questions as they work
It’s designed to be flexible, responsive, and calm — not another class, but a study space with expert support built in.
Why It’s So Effective
✅ Bridges the gap between GCSE and A-level — both in content and in mindset
✅ Builds confidence with A-level exam questions, from the very start
✅ Reinforces learning that often can’t be revisited in lessons
✅ Provides real-time feedback and clarification — no question goes unanswered
✅ Encourages consistent, high-quality independent study
✅ Builds fluency in core skills through fast, focused weekly quizzes
✅ Offers my personalised support and commitment to each student
Each session guarantees 90 minutes of structured, focused maths — something many students struggle to build into their week on their own. That structure alone can make a huge difference over time.
This group helps students feel supported, stay accountable, and make steady weekly progress — all in one calm, purposeful space.
FAQs
When are the sessions?
The Christmas Term’s sessions will take place from 1930-2100 every Monday, from Monday 14 September to Monday 7 December inclusive (except for two weeks for half-term).
How much are the sessions?
The charge for membership of the group for the Christmas term is £363 – £33 per week). This covers all resources, the 11 90-minute sessions and support between sessions.
Payments can be made termly, half-termly or monthly, as you like.
Why do I have to commit to all the sessions?
Several reasons for this. There is no doubt that regular and sustained study is most impactful, and this study group is aimed at those who want to commit to get their top grade. What’s more, in the past, parents have said to me that they appreciate having to commit at the start, and explaining this to their son / daughter, rather than having to have a weekly discussion about whether or not they will attend each week.
What if I can’t make a session?
No problem – all the sessions are recorded, and the recordings are made available to the students. What’s more, I am available between sessions to sort any mis-comprehensions.
But what if the sessions simply are not working for my son or daughter?
Firstly, I think this would be very unlikely – but please do raise any issues with me immediately, and I will do all I can to ensure that the sesisons are working well for your son or daughter.
But, just in case, I do offer a love-it-or-leave-it guarentee – if you would like to withdraw your son or daughter from the sessions after the second week, you may do so, and I will refund for the remaining sessions.
How does the WhatsApp support work?
Your son or daughter will be able to contact me individually between sessions via WhatsApp if they need help or get stuck. I’ll create a separate WhatsApp group for each student, which includes both the student and their parents — so you’re always in the loop.
How many students will there be in the group?
To ensure that I can do an excellent job by each of the students, the group will be limited to only 10 students.
How do I join a session?
When you book your place, you will receive an email with the meeting link. You will be able to join the meeting by clicking the link. (You do not need to have a Zoom account, or to have downloaded Zoom – you just have to click on the link).

A Year 12 Student’s Experience
“Maths with Chris in Year 12 has been really helpful for my learning and to support me in improving in maths. I like having the group lessons. It’s good to see what other people ask and how they work through problems. I find that some maths things are easier, some are harder. In a group setting, you can all explore different ways of working, and I found it really helpful. Chris’s explanations and his resources are great. I can go over them afterwards, and it helps me understand the topics.
Chris has a different approach that we don’t get in class, and it’s so helpful. He goes through harder exam questions and works through how to approach them. I found this really helpful when I’m doing independent learning and back in class.
Having the lessons with Chris has given me a positive mindset and helped me feel that I’m much more able to achieve the best I can in my A-level maths.”
